A couple of years ago, I got to participate in a short-term internship in New York City for the summer. I was praying for the Lord to provide a local body of believers with whom I could serve and grow during that time. My pastor encouraged me to attend First Baptist. That summer was an incredible blessing. I was so encouraged at how the pastor, Matthew Hoskinson, humbly led the congregation to a fuller understanding of corporate worship, intentional Christian living and discipleship, and the gospel-centered role of a local body of believers in a city like New York.
When I returned to the city in November 2012, this time indefinitely, I was confident that the Lord wanted me to pour into the body at First Baptist and grow as a part of it.
The best thing about First Baptist is the genuineness of the members here. None of us is perfect, but it has been wonderful to witness the congregation humbly and openly submit to the authority of God’s Word with the sincere desire to display the Lord’s glory to each other, and to the city and the world around us.
