Matthew Hoskinson was born and reared in the Detroit area, and he was first drawn to trust Christ as an 8-year-old. In his teenage years, the Lord began kindling a desire for pastoral ministry in Matthew’s heart. That desire led to seminary studies and eventually a PhD in Theology. During his schooling, he met his wife Kimberly, a native of Ottawa, Illinois.
While finishing his dissertation, Matthew was called to serve as the Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Discipleship at Heritage Bible Church in Greer, S.C., where he and his wife were members. In 2007 the elders asked him to move to serve in a role as the Pastor of Ministry Vision, a role that included vision-casting and administrative responsibilities.
After a bout with cancer, Matthew heard about the opportunity at First Baptist through a pastor friend in Washington, D.C. He and his wife rejoiced as God opened doors for them to serve the congregation as the nineteenth pastor of the church. Matthew was installed as pastor on September 26, 2010, and he and his wife eagerly anticipate Christ exalting Himself in the years to come through First Baptist.
Matthew is the author of Assurance of Salvation: Implications of a New Testament Theology of Hope, an adaption of his dissertation. He has written articles for the 9Marks eJournal and SharperIron.org, and he blogs at debtortograce.com.
Matthew and Kimberly were married in 2000, and they have four daughters and a son.
